Overview

2-hour beginner surf lesson in Arugam Bay. Stand up guaranteed. Soft-top board, leash and rash guard included. Max 4 students. No experience needed.

Never surfed before? Arugam Bay is one of the best places in the world to learn — and this 2-hour beginner lesson is designed to get you standing on a wave by the end of your first session. No experience needed. No fitness level required. Just a willingness to get in the water.

Your certified instructor starts on the beach with a short, practical theory session covering paddling technique, the pop-up, wave timing, and ocean safety. Then you’re in the water, on a large stable soft-top board in Arugam Bay’s gentle, forgiving shorebreak — warm, sandy-bottomed, and perfect for first-timers. Your instructor stays with you throughout, selecting waves, correcting your technique in real time, and giving you the confidence to ride.

Small groups of maximum 4 students mean you get meaningful attention, not just a quick push and a wave goodbye. By the end of the session most students are riding unbroken waves independently. Arugam Bay’s consistent May–October swell and offshore winds make it one of the best surf learning windows in Asia.

Story

You’ve been watching surfers all morning from the beach. It looks impossible — and impossibly fun. At 7 AM your instructor meets you on the sand. He lays the board flat, shows you the pop-up in about three minutes, and tells you the one thing to look at when you stand. Then you’re in the water. The first two waves you wipe out. The third, something clicks. You’re up. You’re riding. The wave carries you all the way to the sand and you’re already turning around to paddle back out before you’ve even processed what happened. By the end of the session you’ve caught eight waves and you’re sunburned and exhausted and already thinking about booking tomorrow.
